Laser Leg Vein Treatment
Laser treatments and Sclerotherapy reduce and eliminate the appearance of spider veins. This procedure may require 3 or more treatments for optimal results.
Sclerotherapy This "gold standard" treatment for spider veins involves the injection of a solution into the vein causing it to swell then collapse and seal shut. The vein turns to scar tissue and fades within several weeks. What is Sclerotherapy? Sclerotherapy was developed over 75 years ago and is at present one of the most prevalent treatments for spider veins. During treatment, a sclerosing agent is injected into the vein through a tiny needle. Upon injection, the solution replaces the blood in the vein generating irritation and ultimately corrosion to the vessel walls. The body then starts a natural healing process and the vein begins to decompose, shrink, and eventually disappear. Depending on the number of veins being treated in any given session, treatment can last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. What results will I see? Improvement will be gradual. Many patients experience between 50% and 60% improvement of the treated vessels. During a consultation, you will be advised as to the required number of treatments needed to achieve your desired results. What are the benefits? No downtime! patients can immediately resume work and all normal activities. Though patients are advised to refrain from vigorous activities for the first 24 to 48 hours. Little if any discomfort. A safe, time-proven procedure. No anesthesia is required What are the side effects? In most cases, you will be able to immediately resume regular activities. However, excessive standing or vigorous activities are not advised for at least 24 to 48 hours. Following treatment, the affected veins may darken and the area may appear bruised. Support hose are recommended since applied pressure will help reduce side effects and aid in a more effective treatment and healing process. After the treatment of larger vessels, affected areas may appear pigmented but this is only temporary and will fade over time. Who is a candidate? During your consultation, our staff will determine if you are a candidate. Depending on the type of problem veins, a combination of different treatment modalities may be suggested. How many treatments will it take? Several treatments may be required to achieve the optimum result. In some cases, as few as two or three treatments will do. Laser Therapy Best for very small spider veins, this laser works by sending bursts of high energy and light into the vein to destroy it. Veins fade slowly before they eventually disappear. In recent years, medical lasers have become significantly more advanced. Today, lasers are widely used for a broad range of non-invasive cosmetic treatments. Laser therapy is extremely safe and effective for treating leg veins, as well as for veins that are visible on the face, neck, chest, and just about anywhere else. Non-invasive treatments like laser therapy have become increasingly popular because they involve very few side effects and patients resume regular activities immediately following treatment. Which types of veins can laser therapy treat? Laser therapy treats many types of leg veins, including shallow spider veins and reticular veins. How many treatments are required? The number of treatments necessary to resolve vein concerns depends largely on the size of the veins to be treated and the body's ability to heal. During an initial consultation, patients receive an evaluation and are given an estimated number of required treatments needed to obtain optimal results. What does the treatment involve? Treatment may vary in length from 15 to 30 minutes. Heat from the laser damages vein walls. As a result, the body induces a natural healing process. Veins then shrink and become less visible. Sometimes, they disappear altogether. Laser therapy allows for customized treatment of virtually every small vein disorder, including veins that do not respond favorably to other treatment methods. What are the side effects and is there any "down time"? The beauty of laser treatment is that there is no down time involved. Patients immediately resume regular activities. Pain is generally mild. Swelling and mild bruising may occur but quickly resolves over time. Limiting your sun exposure will greatly minimize the risk of complication. Spider veins are very small veins created by the dilation of tiny venules found under the skin. Spider veins occur when the pressure inside the vein increases enough to overcome normal resistance of the vein wall. Reticular veins are small, bluish-colored veins that carry blood to the skin venules. They are larger than spider veins. Reticular veins have thin walls and dilate with excessive venous pressure. When this process occurs, the affected veins become large enough to be deemed unsightly, but are not considered varicose veins. Prior to scheduling a medical spa treatment, each patient will have a skin care consultation with one of our cosmetic specialists. The consultation will allow for a comprehensive evaluation of your skin care needs and development of a regimen that is perfectly tailored for you. There is a $50 consultation fee which will be credited toward your scheduled treatment. Cost of treatment is available upon request. |
